What we do in the name of helping often unintentionally creates conditions where we are not meeting the most basic needs of the people we support. Being Person Driven is a vehicle for connection and the creation of a helpful relationship, making us more effective at what we do. This framework is very simple and powerful, yet not habitual for most people.

This three-part presentation will introduce attendees to a set of simple competencies and three new habits that they can use to create a powerful way to connect with others. Attendees will better appreciate that when we develop our ability to partner with people and create a culture of connection and feedback, the people who choose our services are more likely to experience us as helpful.

Part 1: Being Aware & Taking Responsibility For The Choices We Are Making
In this session, attendees will have an opportunity to learn how critical it is for us to appreciate that we are actively shaping the reality we perceive when we are trying to listen and help someone. Attendees will learn how the Person Driven Framework was developed to assist anyone interested become a better listener.
Part 2: Being Person Driven – Making It Do-Able!
In the second session, attendees will concretely explore how to use the Person Driven Framework Training Cards. They will have an opportunity to better understand how the practice of twelve simple competencies can (when practiced) help them develop three new helpful habits they could use when supporting someone they know who may be doing something they find puzzling or challenging at times.
Part 3: Putting It Into & Learning From Practice
In the third session, concrete examples to help attendees realize how the Person Driven Framework can make a difference in real life. The presenter will share stories to help attendees first understand the power of providing emergency empathy when someone is struggling as well as appreciating how seeking feedback from the person you are trying to help is truly a gift. Depending on time and interest, attendees will also have the opportunity to explore questions around the implementation of being person driven.
